Letter of the Day: Don’t forget about Saskatchewan’s teachers

Recently there were budget cuts to education in the province of Saskatchewan. This not only impacts teachers’ salaries but also impacts the resources available for teachers. The budget cuts have created massive fear in the lives of not only teachers but everyone associated directly or indirectly with the whole educational system! Today I am speaking out in support of the teachers!

People always talk about the importance of the education system impacting students. Having a focus specifically targeted with the student in mind is not effective when it comes to teaching those students! What about the teachers? Today, right now, teachers are feeling stressed over the budget cuts. If there are no teachers to teach students there will be no students bottom line. How are the children going to learn?

Stress? Teachers are told their jobs are not secure because of the budget cuts. They have no idea if they will have a teaching job at the end of June. Do you think that would add a bit of stress to their day? Any normal person who is told their job isn’t secure would be in a fearful state let alone teachers.
