With money tight and the costs of lunchtime supervision rising every year, the Regina public school board says it’s looking at eliminating the free program.
Under the universal lunch room supervisor program, kids in Grades 1 through 8 can have lunch in the classroom, with a paid supervisor there to watch over them.
When the program was introduced in 2008, it cost around $600,000 annually. More recently, that figure has grown to about $1.3 million.
The board is discussing the future of lunch hour supervision at a public meeting Tuesday night.
